Yellow Light Moments: Jamaica Edition
In the chaos of everyday obligations, it’s easy to miss life’s quiet invitations. The ones that don’t ask us to accomplish anything, but simply invite us to notice, breathe, and be present.
Jamaica gave me those invitations everywhere.
Listening to the ocean with the warm breeze against my skin. Noticing the incredible detail of an island flower. Watching the sun slowly fall, turning the sky brilliant shades of orange. Lying in a hammock beneath the moon and stars, watching lightning from a far-off storm illuminate the night.
None of these moments were productive. And that was exactly the point.
We live in a world that celebrates movement, momentum, full calendars, and pushing through. But sometimes what we need most isn’t more movement. It’s stillness.
Something slower. Simpler. Beautiful. Something that reminds us who we are outside of our roles, responsibilities, and to-do lists.
That is soul care.
Jamaica reminded me that restoration rarely happens by accident. We have to create room for it. And while vacation makes that easier, I don’t want to believe I need a plane ticket, passport, and Caribbean beach to experience it.
Restoration doesn’t come through intensity. It comes through intentionality.
A few quiet minutes with a book. Morning coffee outside. A walk without headphones. Leaving space on the calendar and resisting the urge to fill it.
Small moments, practiced consistently, have a way of filling us back up.
Maybe the challenge isn’t simply to take more vacations. Maybe it’s to bring a little bit of vacation home.
Jamaica gave me beautiful Yellow Light Moments, but the greater lesson is learning to recognize them when there isn’t an ocean in front of me.
Let the little things lead you back to what matters most.
